Click images to enlarge Description SUPERB ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ENGLISH SWEPT GILT PICTURE FRAME ~ a fabulous old mount with sublime gesso detailing incredible strapwork to border frieze & wonderful cartouche corners, lovely Baroque acanthus ornamentation, a beautiful guilloche motif to back edge, this is a frame with an incredible wow factor it would grace any museum, art gallery ~ Measuring approximately 22 & 1/2" by 16 & 3/4" (External) ~ With a rebate (to fit a picture) of 16 & 1/2" by 10 & 7/8" (Internal) ~ Or, in centimetres 42cm by 27.5cm ~ Sight size is 15 & 1/2" by 9 & 5/8" ~ With a depth of 2 & 1/2" ~ * a fantastic antique gilt frame with beautiful highly-convoluted gesso detail all along the outwardly raised border ~ a good colorisation I suspect the colour despite being a lovely burnished tone is not quite the original as the sides of the frame shows the original gilding which is somewhat muted over time & yet provides a fabulous contrast (see photos 23 & 24) ~ ** there are a plethora of classic Victorian decorative motifs in the highly-convoluted gesso, beautiful raised strapwork of interlocking patterns & various acanthus ornaments sit amidst various foliate trails & the sight has a marvellous foliate acanthus/lamb's tongue cross pattern ~ *** an incredibly solid build, this is the work of a superior FrameMaker / carpenter, entirely handbuilt construction is amazing with super-solid corner joints ~ the ancient nails can still be seen at the sides of the frame ~ patently designed to hold a portrait of someone special person long since gone, everything about this frame, the build, the design the style, this an exceptional frame with an incredible balance, charm & character ~ ... this fabulous frame will suit a quality painting or perhaps a portrait of a loved one & would certainly grace any wall, it would also make an amazing mirror ... Thank you for looking ~ If you have any questions please ask ~ Condition Condition is Very Good; with surprisingly few losses to the gesso & not any that stand out or that will be seen once the frame is hung, there is a sliver missing perhaps 1 & 1/2" in length, a tubed section to a lower side, one corner appears to have had a minor fix, this you see in lots of old frames & again is at the back of the frame & I mention just to be 100% honest in the listing; together with the odd minor age commensurate ding to the border, but in truth nothing particularly noteworthy ~ Super strong corners ~ Age commensurate wear ~ With NO major damages OR losses ~ *** Amazingly all of the major highly-convoluted gesso appendages are pleasingly intact, there are very few if any losses at all here Please refer to the photographs ~ They accurately represent the very good antique condition ~ Any significant damages OR losses are always shown in the photos ...
