I bought and read Wonder Woman at Super Hero High because Wonder Woman is one of my favorite characters. I really enjoyed that book so I decided to purchase Supergirl as well. Supergirl at Super Hero High is even better than Wonder Woman at Super Hero High.Supergirl ends up on Earth after Krypton is destroyed and she begins attending Super Hero High. The problem? Supergirl is NOT a good student. She befriends Barbara Gordon, the IT girl who wishes she could attend Super Hero High too. The friendship between Supergirl and Barbara is very interesting and each struggles with relatable issues. There is a mystery to solve, however, if you've seen the first DC Superhero Girls TV special, then you already know how this one will end. I still would highly recommend this book for any young superhero fan (or older superhero fans like me who prefer something light hearted) because the message is so positive and relatable. I look forward to future books in the series and hope there will be ones focused on some of the lesser known DC Superhero Girls.I am really enjoying the writing in this series. As a former librarian, I was often asked by girls for books about adventure that were girl centered--specifically, they wanted to 'still be a girl but be able to do stuff'. Not so easy a task. Sure, there are some but not any where near the amount of adventure stories offered to boys or tomboys. Probably why Nancy Drew, American Girl, Babysitters Club, etc., were so popular. Nice to see a new series filling that bracket. I also am a firm believer that books for children shouldn't be stuffed full of social/political agendas or pushing subjects or actions that are more appropriate for older readers or future parental discussions. I think girls and boys need to be allowed to just be girls and boys--that they need to be focused on learning who they are, how to be a good person, how to make wise choices for their lives, and how to interact positively with others--without adults trying to force them to think or do or be whatever is the current world fad. And this book series is letting them do that. While this series is set at 'Super Hero High', the subject matter is always safe for the grade school readers it is really aimed at. No bad language, no sexual situations, no graphic content. Very positive and self-building, it lets the characters learn and grow through their experiences and interactions with others--following their determination to become worthy of the title of 'superhero'. Sometimes they make mistakes, but they try hard to make it right and do better. In this book, Supergirl is the focus of the story--and she must learn how to overcome loneliness and a lack of self confidence in order to become the person she wants to be. As the 'new kid' on the planet, she has to make new friends, start her life over after losing her parents and home, and learn to know when to trust others and when to trust herself. She's not always successful, but though she gets discouraged and fears she has failed, she finds within herself the will to keep trying anyway--because she knows she has to do the right thing, no matter what. This is a truly positive series that teaches girls how to learn to become their best selves--and how to help the world around them become a better place through their compassion, courage, and hard work. I completely recommend it as a keeper series.
