Description: Coca Cola has made thousands of Commemorative bottles over the years. Each one celebrates events in our lives. This one celebrates the "Sweet Potato House 1940-1997". It was originally sold to raise money for the restoration of the Sweet Potato House. This building was built in 1940 by W.E. Johnson. It was actually named the "Sweet Potato Curing and Storage House. It was also known as the "Mable House". It was located near Roopville, Georgia. This building was used to "cure" the sweet potatoes until market time. Curing converts the starch to a sugar flavor, toughened skins, and prolongs the life. The building was heated by a wood and coal fire. The sweet potatoes were stored in bushel baskets with ventilating holes to allow the curing. "W.E. "Tater" Johnson, so he was called, this great man, such laughter and song he would share. His daily guide was the Bible, as he showed how much he could care, overflowing with warmth, love, and kindness. Men like this are oh, so rare". "Built in 1940 by Walter E. Johnson, family and friends. Was operational until 1965, storage capacity was 1200 crates, 1300 if the rafters were used. The exterior siding was restored in 1981, the roof and siding were replaced in 1998". This bottle and carton was produced by the caretaker and Coca Cola. There were only 250 of them made. This bottle is #89 of 250. It was sold to raise money for the restoration of the Sweet Potato House. The last two pictures are what the Sweet Potato House looks like now. This is a very rare 8 oz. Coca Cola bottle, made in 2019. It comes with the information quoted on the side of this box. It is in perfect condition, unopened.
