Description: Sweet Survival by Pamela Smith How do you celebrate a long life with a chronic illness? With memorable landscapes, poetry, resoluteness, humor, and prayer! Thats what Sweet Survival is about. FORMAT Paperback LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description Humor and horror punctuate the humdrum demands of a life-threatening chronic illness. In Sweet Survival, narrative and lyric poems and a scattering of prose poems exhibit the whimsy and grit a long-term incurable condition entails. Pamela Smith is in her fifth decade as an insulin-dependent diabetic. This collection shows how she has come to thrive. Resilience, even after setbacks, comes with the three Cs she offers in "Prescription" cooperation, combat, and contemplation. These poems celebrate life, art, natural beauty, ministry, poetry, pets, humanity, and God. Sweet Survival is a short testament to her gladness for the color and valor of the long haul. Review This book is an amazing combination of suffering, hilarity and philosophy, a must read for people who are suffering from diabetes. Pamela Smith has created a new slew of words to tell the absolute truth of living with a more than difficult situation, revealing her as an inventor/writer/theologian. She presents us with a lesson for living well that makes us laugh and cry. I highly recommend it for a way of learning so much about the life we all live.Marguerite Guzman Bouvard, author of The Light That Shines Inside Us and Healing: A Life with Chronic Illness Pam Smiths new collection Sweet Survival renders life through the view of a long-term diabetic. In poems that range from frightening to funny, she conveys the sense of a life well-lived: not a "victory" over the disease, but a workable truce that offers each new day as an opportunity to start again.Sheryl Clough, Write Wing Publishing; editor and publisher of Through a Distant Lens: Travel Poems (2014); author of chapbook Ring of Fire, Sea of Stone (2013) Details ISBN1635343259 Author Pamela Smith Language English Year 2017 ISBN-10 1635343259 ISBN-13 9781635343250 Format Paperback Pages 38 Publisher Finishing Line Press Publication Date 2017-10-27 Imprint Finishing Line Press Illustrations Illustrations, black and white Audience General We've got this At The Nile, if you're looking for it, we've got it.
