Made of a plaster base with wood and Sea Shells , Stones , encased inside wood box with glass cover. 18" Long6.75" Tall1.75" Depth Syd Walker MBE Biography Born in Harborne, Birmingham. 9th.January 1926 1931 - 1942 Educated at Bournville Elementary School and Kings Norton Grammar School.1943 - 1946 War Service . Conscripted to the Coal Mines as a Bevin Boy. (Scottish Area Representative of the Bevin Boys Association).1947 - 1953 Art Training at Bournville School of Art and Crafts and Birmingham College of Art and Crafts. Graduated NDD.ATD.1953 - 1957 Taught art at Schools and Further Education Departments in England and Scotland.1957 Established first Studio and Gallery in Montrose, Scotland.1957 - 1994 Invited to be a lecturer with The Arts Council of Great Britain. ( Later divided throughout the UK ), becoming The Scottish Arts Council, covering mainland Scotland, the Shetlands and Orkney Islands. The scheme ended when Government finance ended. Syd was the longest serving lecturer.1963 - 1965 Art Director for the Montrose Festival.1991 - 1992 Member of the organizing committee for the Scottish Arts Council Edinburgh Symposium.1994 - 1996 Painted a sixty two feet panoramic painting of Montrose Basin, viewed from the center at low tide. A unique painting which has already toured for six months and is available for showing anywhere where there is a large enough exhibiting space. 31st December 1998 In the Queen's New Years Honors List, he was awarded, "The MBE for services to community art education in Scotland".Syd was a Rotarian, Past President, and has exhibited paintings throughout the world.
