ANSWER; Below is the why / prevention / fix and trouble shooting to help you fix the problem before installation of another one. IF YOUR REGULATOR LOOKS LIKE THIS ONE BUT HAS A DIFFERENT (FOUR PIN TERMINAL) PLUG END (BUT STILL THE SAME THREE PIN WIRES) ON IT THEN YOU CAN CAREFULLY REMOVE YOURS AND PUT IT OVER ON TO THIS ONE. (SEE 5TH PHOTO)IT IS A SIMPLE TASK THAT REQUIRES ONLY A PAPER CLIP TO SWAP IT OVER. THE 4 PRONG TERMINAL PLUG END WAS USUALLY FOUND ON THE BOLENS TRACTORS AND ALL THE REST OF THE TRACTOR COMPANIES USE THE THREE PRONG TERMINAL PLUG END. BOLENS SEEMED TO BE THE ONLY ONES WHO RAN A EXTRA WIRE DOWN THROUGH THEIR WIRING HARNESS PLUG END TO GO FROM THE REGULATOR DOWN TO THEIR ELECTRIC CLUTCH. WAY DOWN BELOW IS ALSO A DETAILED LIST OF JUST SOME OF THE ENGINES THAT THIS REGULATOR WAS FOUND ON. NOT ALL OF THEM, "JUST SOME OF THEM". CASE UNI LOADERS WAS THE LAST PLACE THAT WE SEEN THAT HAD THIS PART NEW BUT THEY WANTED $272.70 PLUS SHIPPING & TAX!!! THAT WAS OVER 8 YEARS AGO. HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO SAVE A WAD OF CASH AND HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE FROM A 39 PLUS YEAR (USE TO BE) TECUMSEH BUSINESS SELLER. WE HAVE MANY NEW AND GOOD USED TECUMSEH ENGINE PARTS. THIS REGULATOR IS THE 610907A, 610996, 610988 & N6459 FOUND ON THE CASE UNI LOADERS, BOLENS TRACTORS, MILLER WELDERS AND SEARS TRACTORS WITH TECUMSEH CAST IRON ENGINE. TROUBLE SHOOTING NOW THE ONE THING THAT WOULD CAUSE YOUR REGULATOR TO QUIT WORKING IS A BATTERY WITH A DEAD CELL IN IT. A HIGH AMP BATTERY WITH A DEAD CELL IN IT WILL STILL START YOUR ENGINE! A BATTERY WITH A DEAD CELL WILL CAUSE THE REGULATOR TO STAY ON CHARGE MODE. THIS IS BECAUSE THE BATTERY IS TELLING THE REGULATOR THAT IT HAS NOT REACHED THE POINT OF BEING FULLY CHARGED YET. THIS OVER WORKS THE REGULATOR CAUSING IT TO GET HOT AND BURN OUT. IF YOU KNEW THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE BATTERY BUT NEGLECTED TO SWAP IT OUT FOR A NEW ONE THEN THIS IS WHY YOU ARE NEEDING TO REPLACE YOUR REGULATOR WITH A NEW ONE.THERE ARE OTHER THINGS AS WELL THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS BUT THAT IS THE ONE MAIN CAUSE. A BATTERY WITH A DEAD CELL IN IT CAN ALSO BURN OUT YOUR STATOR CHARGER UNDER THE FLYWHEEL! IT WILL GET HOT AND BURN IT OUT FROM STAYING ON CHARGE ALL THE TIME. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF WHICH ONE GOES OUT FIRST! BOTH COST MONEY! DO NOT NEGLECT CHANGING OUT THE MUCH CHEAPER BATTERY TO SAVE YOU MORE MONEY LATER! ALSO A BATTERY WITH A DEAD CELL IN IT THAT HAS HIGH CRANKING AMPS WILL STILL START YOUR ENGINE BUT IT WILL STILL CAUSE IT TO BURN OUT THE OTHER COMPONETS BY STAYING ON CHARGE. THIS ALSO MAKES THE ENGINE USE MORE GASOLINE. ALWAYS USE THE RECOMENDED CRANKING AMP BATTERY FOR YOUR ENGINE. ON THESE PARTICULAR CAST IRON OHV ENGINES, THE CRANKING AMP BATTERY SHOULD NOT BE OVER 275 /230 COLD CRANKING AMPS. PLEASE READ THIS. It is very important to satisfy our customers.
