J. Davis in Austin. An internet search reveals that the clearly struck JACKSONBOROUGH, TEXAS (JACK COUNTY) spelling in the circular date stamp is quite elusive -- I could find only a single usage of it in a c.1867 Committee on War-Claims Report. Perhaps the cds here is a rarely used alternate spelling of the documented location of Jacksboro(ugh) in Jack County, Texas or maybe it was a spelling error in the postmark that went undetected. I'm really not sure. Note, too, the wonderful banknotes strip of four higher franking. All in all, cover is a real gem in my opinion with lots of bells and whistles.
