Spine with five gilt decorated raised bands, gilt title/year to double gilt rule framed second compartment, very ornate filigree gilt to each other compartment, fancy gilt rule to head and foot of spine. Doublure covers with thick black leather and multiple fancy gilt rule to turn-ins, front doublure with gilt "Waddie& Co., Edin." to lower turn-in (see pic). Edgewear, corners slightly bumped and rubbed, loss of gilt to portions of front cover (see pic). Dampstain to some plates only (see pic). Very dark green endpapers (and doublure center panel), all edges gilt. 376 pgs., 36 full page engravings, hundreds of interesting articles on painting, sculpture, history, and the arts in general.
