Author Biography When Dan switched his major in college from architecture to art, his parents rolled their eyes in resignation that their oldest son was going to go through life as a starving artist, possibly living in their home until well into his 40s. Not wanting to fulfill their lowered expectations, he minored in education so at least he could be gainfully employed as a teacher of art until fame and fortune arrived. It didnt arrive in time. He taught for several years until his lust for artistic adventure sent him into the world of freelance design. One day he found himself with a wife and family and the need to get serious again about income stability. Not knowing any better, he went to work for a couple advertising agencies managing accounts . . . boring! He started his own one-man ad agency in order to play a bigger part in more of the process . . . tiring! He finally settled on a specialty advertising product, focusing on the creative end of the business . . . mentally exhausting! While in the advertising business he dabbled in political cartoons and found a niche in cartooning for special issues, ballot measures, and candidates through campaign consultants and PR managers. He also created cartoons on demand for various political websites and lifestyle publications. During a period of financial sluggishness he veered off course slightly and took a job as the director of communications for small college and, for a few years more, as the art director for a company publishing tourist-targeted maps and guides.
