Description: GORGEOUS Early Antique Wooden Victorian Stereo "Stereoptican" Viewer, c.1875, Manufacturer Marked DESCRIPTION: Particularly nicely made & finished WOODEN antique Victorian stereo viewer, also known as a "stereoptican" device. Made of nicely finished wood. It is an interesting device that holds stereo view cards made to provide a 3-dimensional photo effect. It enables sliding the card holder back and forth as needed to enable precise focus according to each individual person's preference. Has both clips on the sides to hold each card in place. It also is fitted with 2 thick tilted magnification lenses to enlarge and focus the detail of the stereo photos and a wooden "hood" to facilitate clear vision as shown. Has a fancy turned folding wooden handle on the bottom to hold the device while viewing (these are often broken or missing) and a nice brass slide to move the arm and stereo card for focus.These units were extremely popular during the late 1800s - early 1900s. This wooden style is one of the earlier models, made c.1875, ALMOST 150 YEARS OLD!! ALSO HAS THE MANUFACTURER'S INFORMATION STAMPED IN IT, UNDERWOOD, WHICH IS VERY SCARCE. Scans show all the details. THIS IS A VERY NICE, WELL MADE, COMPLETE, AND FUNCTIONAL UNIT! It is perfect as an antique decorator, or again, IT CAN STILL BE USED. IN PERFECT CONDITION OVERALL. Beautiful finish on the wood.
