This single sheet, double sided, card stock invitation was to publicize New Line Cinema's "Polyester", written, produced and directed by John Waters, and featuring Divine, Tab Hunter, Edith Massey, Mink Stole and Jay Leno (although he is uncredited). The movie is an American comedy satire film, that was filmed in Baltimore, Maryland, and featured "Odorama", a gimmick where viewers could smell what they were seeing on the screen, by using "Scratch and Sniff" cards that were distributed in the theatre. It premiered in theaters on May 29, 1981, and this invitation was for "The Divine Tea Dance", "An Evening Honoring The World's Greatest Star", held on Sunday, April 26, 1981, a month prior to the movie's premiere. Billed as the "World's Largest Stag Party", the Tea Dance was held at The Underground, in New York City, starting at 7:00 PM, and hosted by Divine herself.The postcard / invitation is unused, and is in great, vintage condition, with both front and back surfaces clean and the colors bright.
