Bound in full diced calf, outlined in gilt. Banded spine with titles on morocco to an upper compartment. Edges and corners worn and rubbed. Title a little chipped. Marbled endpapers and closed edges. Size 14 x 22cm. Block tight, though with some scattered spotting and blotchy foxing. 167pp/67pp separately paginated. The author, later Dean of St. Pauls, was the Vicar of St. Mary's Reading at this time. He was long known for his poetry and dramatic writings. This dramatic poem describes the siege of 70AD and also depicts the conflict between" the Jewish conservatism and new truth" (DNB). ---------------------------------------------One of a number of similar items I am selling.
