Needless to say, the game begins in Nauvoo and ends in the valley of the Great Salt Lake. This game was originated with the purpose in view of helping both YOUNG and OLD learn the history and belief of Mormon pioneers. Besides the questions and answers that come with the game it is the intent to print more from time to time on other subjects, which will make the game, ever a new one. The board is a work of art, executed by one of America’s foremost artists, Fielding Kimball Smith , a grandson of both Hyrum smith , who was martyred at Carthage, Illinois, and Heber C. Kimball , one of the original MORMON Pioneers. The board is also historical. As you open it you will see, down in the right hand corner, a picture featuring the NAUVOO TEMPLE, which had scarcely been finished by the saints when they were forced to leave their beloved city. To the left of the picture of Nauvoo is a representation of the rolling hills and farms of Iowa, on which, according to authentic history, Mormon exiles worked for whatever the Iowa settlers had to give. Each of the six farms on the board is identified by name of an animal in the center of it. In front of each farm is an opening or GATE through which the miniature PIONEER enters and exits. The LARGE BLUE SPACES surrounding the farms represent the ROADS, which lead to the various Iowa farms. The DARK ORANGE spaces bordering Nauvoo represent the EXIT FROM IOWA. On each side of the WINTER QUARTERS MEETING HOUSE are representations of the farms established by the Mormons in the prairies of what is now the State of Nebraska. On the outside of each farm is a GREY FENCE. The BROWN CIRCLE on the inside of the Fence represents "plowing" the GREEN CIRCLE "planting" and the GOLD CIRCLE "harvesting." The ROAD that leads to the different farms is ORANGE; the space in front of each farm is YELLOW as is also the DRIVEWAY, which is directly below the BAG OF GRAIN. The top half of the BOARD represents the TREK on which are fifteen "OBSTACLES." The names of the OBSTACLES are printed on the RED SPACES, the first one is "RIVER." There are arrows on this HIGHWAY which if followed will lead to the VALLEY OF THE GREAT SALT LAKE. There are DETOURS that must be made if the OBSTACLES cannot be passed otherwise. The original pioneer ODOMETER was invented by the Pioneers while enroute to the Rocky Mountains in 1847. It was placed on the hub of a wagon wheel and automatically measured distances traveled. An adaptation of the ODOMETER is used in THE GAME OF EMIGRATION for determining distances to be traveled (spaces moved) by the miniature PIONEERS and COVERED WAGONS. This Extremely Rare game was made in a small quantity in 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah.Shipping by USPS.Please check photos closely for condition and specifications.
