Presumed First Edition.Published by William Heinemann Ltd, London Hardback book with green cloth cover and paste-down to front cover. 4 colour plates (including frontispiece) plus several full-page black and white drawings. Unpaginated. Dimensions approx. CONDITION - PLEASE READReasonably good condition overall but with a few flaws. Quite a bit of wear and tear to cover - scuffing, numerous small dents/dings (mainly to front cover - above and to the left of the bottom right hand corner), noticeable dent to bottom edge of back cover plus a vertical indentation near bottom edge of back cover, small tears to top and bottom of spine (with slight loss of spine covering), wear/rubbing to spine edges, areas of fading/discolouration and grubbiness, areas of staining to back cover (primarily a long vertical streak/drip of staining - see photos). Quite a bit of wear/rubbing to front cover pastedown. Wear/bumping to corners with boards exposed. Noticeable bump to bottom of spine throughout. Front endpaper has the remains of a small label, plus a small pencil annotation and several areas of rubbing. The front endpaper and the following page also have several faint impressions where a previous owner has pressed on them whilst writing on another piece of paper. Some cracking to front hinge (with webbing a little exposed and some staining from tape - since removed - that a previous owner had placed there to reinforce the hinge) but it is still sturdy. Slight cracking to top of back hinge. Heavy tanning to endpapers and cover linings. Heavy foxing to first and last pages. Some foxing to title page and to margins of a few pages. General age discolouration/tanning. Some creasing/bumping to top outer corner throughout. Slight (water?) staining to tip of top outer corner of last few pages - and the last plate (the one of Pe, featuring the Japanese lanterns) - not too noticeable. The odd other small mark here and there. But otherwise good. Binding is tight. No loose pages. Colour plates are all in good order - clean with no major stains and no edge tears. Other internal pages are also good with no major stains and no tears or annotations. Please see photos for more information. I have photographed the main flaws. Please note that it has proved difficult to reproduce the colours totally accurately in the photos. Any questions, please feel free to ask.
