No date but dated by a copy held at the British Library.With 21 illustrations over 16 plates.This celebrated study of witchcraft in Europe was written by British-Indian anthropologist and folklorist Margaret Murray. 'Murray is particularly known for her work in Egyptology, archaeology and the history of witchcraft. Murray is also known for her witch-cult theory which argues that the witches that were persecuted in Europe were actually followers of a "a definite religion with beliefs, ritual, and organisation as highly developed as that of any cult". This theory has been reiterated in this work, which looks into medieval religion and witchcraft in Europe'. Complete with rather tattered dust wrapper. Book: Slight bumping to the head and foot of the spine; slight rubbing to the board edges; a small 'dink' about half-way along the outer edge of the front board. A few spot marks to the boards (see pictures). To the upper page edges there is a small indentation/bump and a lesser one to the top area of the leading edge pages. Discolouration to the end papers. Internally: securely bound; slight age related discolouration, o/w remarkably clean in relation to the book's age.
