Yet in them thereis no trace of the glibness, the artificial glitterso often associated with professionals. Forwhile they display years of training and skillin the techniques and mechanics of producinga record, they see themselves not as enter-tainers but as instruments for God’s glory.Gay and Kay Faulkner, identical twins,and Pat Cunningham, their “look alike,”were all students at Cuyahoga Falls HighSchool in Ohio, but did not meet until thetwins began attending the Cathedral of To-morrow and accepted the Lord as their per-sonal Saviour. There, Henry Slaughter andNolan Golden recognized their talents andgave them some valuable training. UnderMr. Golden’s sponsorship the trio was formedin January of 1961 and they became knownas the Golden Triplets.They gained confidence and poise bysinging regularly at church services, as mem-bers of the Cathedral Caravan and in ap-pearances at Gospel concerts with such per-formers as Mahalia Jackson, Stuart Hamblin,the Weatherfords, the Blackwood and States-men Quartets. Their personal appearancestook them into a number of states fromAlabama to New York. In 1962 they re-corded an EP album on the Cathedral label.They have had their own radio program onWTOF-FM in Canton, Ohio, and have madenumerous appearances on WJW-TV and othertelevision stations. They have also com-posed several songs.Yet the commercial and entertainmentaspects of their careers have held little realappeal for them.By 1963 the girls had left the concert cir-cuit. In July of that year they becamemembers of the Church of God of Prophecyin Akron, Ohio. Their singing has taken ona new dimension, a certain spiritual qualitywhich transcends professional polish. Thisspirit of deep consecration and utter sinceritycommunicates itself despite the limits im-posed by electronic gadgetry. “Please don’temphasize our professional backgrounds,”they say, “but tell everyone how deeplywe feel about our music and the good wehope it will do. If we thought that it wouldbe nothing but entertainment we would neverrecord another song.”Their own words about this album, BETHOU MY GUIDE, reveals their attitude:“The title of this album is truly our testi-mony. With the Lord as our Guide, wesincerely pray that the songs on this albumwill touch the heart of every person whohears them. It is our deepest conviction thatthe Lord has called us into the ministry ofmusic and that He will use our singing forHis honor and His glory.”Pat and Kay were married in 1963 andboth have baby daughters about the sameage. Pat Thompson, Kay Foster and GayFaulkner have in the years ahead a splendidopportunity to use their talents in the Lord’sservice.
