Description: The Gospel In Literature By Joseph Nelson Greene Published by Jennings And Graham; Cincinnati. 1910. First Edition (no additional printings indicated). Hardcover. No dustjacket. 12mo (7 1/2" X 5"). 236 pages. From the Preface: Literature and the gospel are bosom friends. The stories and teachings of the gospel have been extravagantly borrowed by literature and made to form an essential part of its life. A lover of the gospel should be a lover of literature, for in the latter he finds much of the former. The lover of literature should come to have a wholesome regard for the gospel, for if he reads wisely he sees that the latter furnishes much of the color and life of the former. The combination is a delightful one. Condition External: Moderate shelfwear with some scuffing to edges of spine and cover corners. Letter "G" written in white on spine. Internal: Much writing and light staining on front pastedown and name written on front endpage. Binding is tight and all lightly-browned pages are intact and clean with very sporadic light staining. Overall condition is Good+. Full refund if book is not as described. Please add $3.50 for USPS Media Mail (Bookrate) shipping within USA. I will gladly combine multiple purchases into one shipment to save on postage. AB Bookman's Weekly first proposed in 1949 a set of terms that could serve as a standard for the antiquarian book trade. These terms have been widely adopted as industry standards since then: As New is to be used only when the book is in the same immaculate condition in which it was published. There can be no defects, no missing pages, no library stamps, etc., and the dustjacket (if it was issued with one) must be perfect, without any tears. Fine approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. For the use of the term Fine there must also be no defects, etc., and if the jacket has a small tear, or other defect, or looks worn, this should be noted. Very Good can describe a used book that does show some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects must be noted. Good describes the average used and worn book that has all pages or leaves present. Any defects must be noted. Fair is a worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. (which must be noted). Binding, jacket (if any), etc. may also be worn. All defects must be noted. Poor describes a book that is sufficiently worn that its only merit is as a Reading Copy because it does have the complete text, which must be legible. Any missing maps or plates should still be noted. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc.
