Simpson, is the history of the Marshall County Texas soldiers who fought in the First Texas Infantry (Company E) as part of the famed Texas Brigade that fought under General John Bell Hood in the Easter Theater of the Civil war in the Army of Northern Virginia. This limited release booklet (only 50 copies printed) is based on a lecture that Simpson presented in 1965 to the Harrison Country Historical Society and which was later expanded and published in this very limited release booklet. A total of 118 men served in Company E. 1st Texas Infantry during the war. There were 74 members present when the Marshall Guards were mustered in at New Orleans on June 6, 1861. Forty-four men were recruited during the war. Most of the forty-four were from Harrison County. On April 9, 1865 when Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House only eight members of Company E were left. Three others had moved on to other companies, leaving but 11 men who served in the company. Five were members of the original seventy-four and served the entire four years. This original, limited edition, antique paperback book is brand new, unread and in pristine condition. Only 50 copies of this book were printed. This is the last new copy. It is sharp, clean and tight. The interior is clean with bright white pages. The book has no writing, smudging, foxing, stamps, pasteboards or other markings. It is not an ex-library booklet. The book contains one photography. 26 pages.
