Her marvelous illustrations combined with delightful fairy tale stories of mermaids and castles and dragons and such make this book a treat from start to end.A scarce First Edition hardcover book, it was published in 1912 by The Rand McNally Press with a subsequent edition published in 1925. The book has blue cloth board covers with gilt lettering and a lovely paste-down picture on front. Inside are eight tipped-in color plate illustrations and six stories: The Mermaid's Gift, The Ruse of the Princess, Prince Almor and the Blind Princess, The King's Mistake; or the Prince Who Had No Fairy Godmother, The Young Dragon, and The Red Troll.It measures 9.25" x 6.75" with 168 pages plus four advertisement pages in the back for other books. The hinge is secure and intact, and there are no missing pages. All of the color plates are present, although two are loose and need to be reglued. The cover shows soiling and wear and overall looks quite nice for its 112 year age. Except for the color plates which were lithographed on a smooth somewhat glossy paper, the interior pages have a soft thicker feel similar to construction paper. They are lightly tanned and have some smudges and marks here and there, and some of the pages also have some foxing or glue residue discoloration near the spine hinge, the worst of which can be seen in picture 7 & 9. A book plate inside the front cover shows this book was an attendance award gift given Christmas 1912 by the Hillsdale M.E. Sunday School to Margaret Oppermann; other than her name handwritten in script, the book is free from any errant writing or scribble marks.Please see photos for details, and if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.
