The Old Stable. Published c. 1830-40's, Philadelphia by the American Baptist Publication Society. 8 pages. Text in English. Publisher's pictorial glossy pale orange paper wrappers. Quite a fresh example, relatively light rubbing, paper still clean with glossy surface (more typically found rubbed and worn down). Scarce pre 1850 juvenile American Baptist chap book. Book is over 150 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition. Binding age worn, typical signs of handling from young hands, but nothing offensive or severe, remains overall attractive as an object. Paper is gently toned, light small spots or tiny stains, still sound and very agreeable given the small size, fragile nature, date and intended audience. A near miniature size (3 1/2" tall). Still attractive on the shelf, it displays a pleasing and unique age patina, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. The asking price reflects the condition based on our examination and 35+ years full time exposure to antiquarian books and ephemera of all types.
