Description: Hi! You're looking at an excellent condition book which is a classic memoir by CAPTAIN TED LAWSON, who recounts his participation in the legendary Doolittle Raids over Japan during World War II--the book is a HARDCOVER copy published by Random House in 1943 and has no dustjacket. This book is in excellent condition and has a very slight forwerd list of the spine edge, light dings on the spine tips with a couple of tiny tears on the upper spine tip, slight dings on the opening tips, a slight exposure of the binding cheesecloth between the second and third pages with NO loose pages or binding compromise, a tiny price stamp on the left center edge of the back surface of the blank last page, very light dustwear and a couple of slight discolored spots on the upper and opening page edges, a small discolored spot on the upper left corner of the back cover and just light shelfwear and slight evidence of gentle browsing but no other significant imperfections! The book is titled Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and it was written by CAPTAIN TED LAWSON and edited by ROBERT CONSIDINE; it was published by Random House in 1943.In this World War II classic, Captain Ted W. Lawson tells the story of America’s legendary strike back on the Japanese Empire in one of the most daring missions in military aviation history: the legendary Doolittle Raid. After Pearl Harbor, America seemed to have lost the war before it had begun. Allied forces were being beaten across the Pacific by the Japanese military juggernaut, and morale was at the breaking point. America desperately needed to strike back at the enemy. For this, a corps of heroic volunteer fliers led by Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle began training to attack the very heart of the Japanese Empire—Tokyo. To succeed, the "Tokyo Raiders" would have to launch sixteen fully loaded B-25 twin-engine medium bombers off the deck of the aircraft carrier Hornet—something never done before—and land at airfields in China.Through courage and luck, the raid itself went flawlessly. But bad weather, lack of fuel, and darkness worked against many of the pilots and, for many, escaping China proved even more perilous than the mission....A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book! Thanks for looking, and good luck if you're bidding!
