Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous American Brilliant Period cut glass deep centerpiece bowl or banana bowl made by Thomas Shotton in Brooklyn NY, c. 1900. The bowl is of very high quality with deep overall multi-cuttings in the design cut on a heavy, thick glass body. The bowl has a scalloped upper rim with saw tooth edge, multiple cut designs and decorative patterns on body with stunning brilliance which is characteristic of cut glass from this period and this factory. The Shotton factory produced cut glass from 1894 to the 1920's. The company did not have a registered trademark so there are no known signed pieces of this glass. This centerpiece bowl was identified by a researcher of American Brilliant Period cut glass who was kind enough to identify the maker for me. Known examples of Shotton cut glass of this size and quality have brought prices in the thousands. Measures 4 1/2" high, 11 1/2" long and 8 1/4" wide with the glass being 3/8" thick. Weighs 5.6 pounds. This bowl is certainly worthy of being added to any cut glass collection. It is in very good Estate condition with the only noted flaw being a small chip on the edge of one of the designs on the bottom of the bowl. There may be a hidden nick or two within the elaborate cut design, however, we found nothing else wrong with this nice centerpiece bowl.
