Description: I have been fortunate to own three pieces of Tony Dow’s sculpture. In my effort to downsize, I am editing through and decided to offer this one to fans of Tonys, as well as people who liked his art. This piece was acquired directly from the DeBilzan Gallery in Laguna Beach, California when they had a gallery in California. Tony Dow was a child actor who portrayed Wally Cleaver in the hit 1960s series Leave it to Beaver. As an adult he went on to do directing as well as becoming a renowned sculptor. One of his pieces was selected to be included in a show at the Louvre in Paris. Died in 2022 at the age of 77. To my knowledge, all existing pieces are in private collections with the exception of one that I know for sale in a gallery. Overall height of this piece is 16 inches. 5 inches consist of the burlwood base. Tony worked a lot in burlwood and used it as an integral part of many of his creations. The sculpture itself (11”) is a found object, with a greenish wash is the best way I know to describe it. It is signed Tony Dow 13, as can be seen in one of the pictures Please note, it is not bronze. If I was not downsizing, this would not be coming available. Here is the response to an email about the green on top of the burlwood base: “Sorry for the delay. This was part of a cityscape series he did and used “found pieces” so it’s difficult to pinpoint. If it’s wood, it’s hollow. More than likely it’s a composite/plastic. All the pieces in the series were painted/washed in the green. And the idea was to create “buildings”. As I said, above the wood base are all “found pieces.”” I am offering this at a significantly lower starting bid than what I paid for the piece in 2013. The Buy it Now price is extremely fair as well. It comes with a certificate of authenticity provided by me as to the provenance of this piece. Please review all pictures because they are an integral part of the description. I ship Tuesday and Thursday based upon when the payment is made in Claire’s.
