Description: North America, Particularly TEXAS in the year 1849: A Travel Account A Book for Enthusiasts, Especially Persons Enthusiastic About Emigration By Wilhelm Steinert, edited by Terry G. Jordan-Bychkov. The Library of Texas Number Five. Originally published in Berlin, 1850, this edition from DeGolyer Library, Southern Methodist Univ., Dallas, TX. 1999. Illustrated with b/w drawings at chapter headings. Steinert made a grand adventure, but he did not like much of what he saw, and concluded that emigration to Texas was a bad idea. He wrote in his native German for people considering emigration. (Plenty of people came from Germany anyway, including some in this bookseller’s family.) Hardback book in Very Good-Plus condition, no dustjacket as issued. Book is bright, clean, tightly bound, and the pages are fresh, glossy, and unmarked. Unread. Cover has slight wear at bottom corners and a spot on the front, gilt lettering gleams but several letters are fainter than the others. 7 x 10 inches, 206 pages including index.
