Treason History of the Order of Sons of Liberty, Formerly Circle of Honor, Succeeded by Knights of the Golden Circle, Afterward Order of American Knights Published By Author 1903 First Edition : 8vo 8" - 9" tall VG Small octovo in original brown cloth cover: very tight text block, clean, bright and unfoxed pages, none torn or marked, the cover has light wear at tip of spine, one small library stamp and residue of paper label on spine but no other indication of ex-librariness, hinges started, else still VG, solidly. Several full-page photos found and an additional 30 page report of the Judge advocate of the US Army in back. The author was born in Kentucky and as a teen trained as a carpenter, in 1862 joined the Kentucky Militia as a clerk. Soon after acting under Gen. Carrington sought out information on the Sons of Liberty. He joined the order and worked in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. He uncovered a subsersive plot to undermine the US military by this group through active rebellion, they started as the Knights of the Golden Circle during the Revolutionary War. One of the chief perpetrators for the Sons of Liberty was Clement L. Vallandigham, the chief "Copperhead", former congressman from Ohio (1858-1860) , who was a states righter and one who declared that the Confederacy had the right to secede. He had been arrested in 1863 and convicted of activities stemming from anti-union speeches, imprisoned then sent into the South. Later compaigned as Governor of Ohio from Windsor Canada. Being a man without a country suggested(? ) toEdward Everett Hale's the similar story.
