Description: Antique Turkish Model 1874 Peabody Bayonet Sword. Measures 28.25" OAL, with a blade length of 22.75", the inside socket diameter measures .715". Bayonet shows age patina, scattered rust on the right side of blade and on pommel and guard. Scabbard is partially missing and the frog shows tears off the front rivet areas both sides, top of scabbard still has the steel locket. Very good looking black checkered grips, but shows some surface wear/loss on the bottom edge areas. The guard and ricasso area of the blade shows markings. This heavy Yataghan bladed bayonet was obviously inspired by the British Bayonets of the era and were manufactured in the US along with the rifles as part of a 600,000 rifle contract. Very nice bayonets, but seems to big and heavy to be very functional as a bayonet. An interesting piece of history. See photos.
