Description: For Sale: Tutankhamen, Life and Death of a Pharaoh, by Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt, HB, DJ, 8th printing 1977. Published by New York Graphic Society, Little Brown and Company. With 75 color photographs by F. L. Kenett. This is a previously owned book in very good condition, with dust jacket. The pages are clean, tight and intact with no writing or markings. The front inside cover has "From Tina & Jim 1977" written in ink. The blue hard cover has white spotting at the spine and edges. The inner side of dust jacket shows discoloration from age. Enclosed in the pages of the book, I found an outline of Didactic Sermon about the Religious Revolution of Akhenaten that will be included. See photos. Taken from dust jacket: Tutankhamen first tells the story of the discovery of the tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 and explores the legend of the curse of the pharaohs. Then, with remarkable historical insight Mme. Desroches-Noblecourt sets the scene for the drama that took place in Egypt 3,300 years ago. She explores the background of Tutankhamen's early life and disentangles his complicated family relationships; she reconstructs, in graphic and moving detail, the ceremony of his coronation and the nine short years of his reign. Giving a new and often controversial interpretation of the objects found in his burial treasure, she goes on to describe the elaborate process of mummification of the young king's body and the funeral rites involved in the preparation for his after-life and immortality. Finally, she brings new evidence to shed light on the pathetic predicament of his widow and the problems of succession caused by his death. I have hundreds of books that have been handed down through generations, plus more recent books. Some are in great condition, some showing much use and some damage. A lot of the books came from homes, bay houses, or beach houses along the Gulf Coast, back before air conditioning, where there is high humidity and severe weather at times. Especially some of the older books from the early 1900's. We were taught that books are very valuable and should never be destroyed as long as they are still readable. Please read descriptions and look at photos to see what you will be getting. Ask questions if unsure. Details of Sale: All sales are "as is" so there should be no returns.
