Description: Two antique hand-colored engravings –from the French text edition of Description de l'univers (5 volumes) 1683, by French cartographer and engineer, Alain Manesson Mallet (1630-1706). They feature the celestials, La Voye Laictee: “Pole Arctique” and “Pole Antarctique,” hand-colored in shades of red, green, blue and ochre with a unique cream matte design in shades of blue and gold trim. . The engravings are in very good condition with decent margins, beautifully framed in gold square beaded wood frames. Printed area of engravings is approximately 6 in by 4.5 in (including title & imprint). Total area matted and framed is approximately 15.5 in by 13.5 in.
