RARE Miklos Farkashazy AQUATINT! Titled/Signed BY ARTIST- “Mule Cart” SEE/READ

Description: SEE & READ: ORIGINAL Miklos Farkashazy Titled & Signed by Him, “Mule Cart” Aquatint Etching B: 1895-D:1964 Gallery Purchased in Budapest sometime in the 1980’s/1990’s GALLERY MARKING AND DATA SEEN ON THE REVERSE OF AQUATINT ETCHING WHEN FRAME WAS REMOVED AND CLEANED- SEE PHOTO’S- This work was purchased from Estate of the Dr. Haas Family Art Collection, of Beverly Hills, Michigan several years ago by us. He & his wife, were avid, knowledgeable art collectors; they were frequent World travelers, acquiring art from galleries and artist studios from some of the countries/region they visited. Dr. Haas was a highly successful Hungarian émigré to the U.S. who visited Hungary on a regular basis he Knew & Bought Good Art. More Data & Provenance: We had the Very Good fortune to have been contacted by a highly regarded eBayer of Hungarian ancestry, from Melbourne, FLA. who happened across a History Book that we were selling (The Battle of Budapest 1944/1945). The book was inscribed to Dr. Haas in Hungarian & English. This gentleman was good enough to contact us with the Hungarian Language translation part: It was from Dr. Haas’s Mother- to him- She and her husband lived through this battle. (Presumably Dr. Haas was already in the U.S. or elsewhere as a very young man during the war). In thanking our fellow eBayer, I sent him photos of this etching (which was not for sale at the time), that we purchased from Dr. Haas’ Estate as well, that we loved. We were never able to fully translate the Cursive Writing of the artist’s name or its title. Our fellow eBayer, had this cursive writing translated by a friend of his: an 88-year old Hungarian-Jewish woman and Holocaust Survivor… We Were & Are Deeply Grateful and Appreciative. (The artist, Miklos Farkashazy, also Hungarian-Jewish and known to the Fascist Authorities in Hungary, was sent to a “work camp” and survived the war) Providing more verifiable and historical data- which will be included in an envelope the back of this work- as promised to our eBay colleague. We were stunned as detailed information of Mr. Farkashazy’s brilliant works (and his own history) unfolded from the Internet- We bought this work because we loved it- noting the expertise of the etching, without actually Knowing Who the Artist Was. Good Art IS Good Art. The Hungarian method, last name first- Farkashazy, Miklos, will be noted. Also included will some of Farkashazy, Miklos data, seen below. THE SIGNATURE AND TITLE OF “Mule Cart” IS Farkashazy, Miklos, this is verifiable on the gallery data beneath the mounting board AND as seen in several of his Cursive Writing Hand Signed works, such as the one we’ve posted here from his work: “BUILDERS” from 1925. DATA AND BIOGRAPHY OF Miklos Farkashazy BELOW: Born in 1895 in Budapest, Miklos Farkashazy - the great-grandson of the founder of the Herend china factory, Mór Farkasházi-Fischer - was an eminent personage of 20th century Hungarian art. Art history keeps tab on the artist, who died in 1964, as a graphic artist and painter, although his patent for colored linear relief called "fadofit" earned him a name in decorative art as well. His life-work progressing from impressionism through cubism to the abstract is characterized by linear bravura, dazzling colors and a whirl of artistic themes and techniques.... Though from 1915 he exhibited at the National Salon in Budapest for several times, his artistic career actually took off in Munich in 1922, Encouraged by one of the greatest Hungarian art collectors and owner of several El Greco paintings, Marcell Nemes, he left the Hungary of a counter-revolutionary setup for the capital Bavaria, where he was drawn towards applied arts. After the initial tries at trick films, he illustrated books and periodicals, designed posters. His first one-man show opened in the Minerva Room (Werbebüro Minerva) in Munich showing his sweeping, animated drawings, book covers and posters somewhat in the style of the art nouveau.... In the late ’30s Farkashazy mainly worked in tempera and created large pastels. Turning his back upon Hungary drifting towards the war, he began painting nostalgic Italian landscapes, themselves a criticism of the age. In 1938 his art was declared "pestilent" and being Jewish, he was hardly allowed to exhibit. In 1944 Hungarian fascists took him off to forced labor, from where he escaped ill. His atelier was hit by a bomb in the war, destroying all his things. Yet he and his wife did not give up; he was the first to show his the first to show his extant and new works to the Budapest public. Up to 1950 when the absolute rule of socialist realism came to stay he had several exhibits as a social democratic painter, and the papers also reproduced his works frequently. He made a graffito of 50 square meters together with his wife for a school wall, and he published an album of his linos. After 1950, however, he was again barred of all possibilities. Therefore, the outcome of his last burst of innovative activity, a series of abstract works, only became known several decades after his death. -Today, Miklos Farkashazy is one of the most sought-after artists in art -trade, his paintings being preserved, apart from museums, in the major Hungarian art collections of the world from Zurich to San Francisco. He was a painter and graphic artist. He pursued his studies in Budapest as the pupil of Manó VESZTRÓCZY. Later he studied further at the Academy in Munich. Since 1916 he had several exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. At the beginning he made colorful decorative tint-drawings and pastels, later also oil-paintings. His works are characterized by vigorous contours, decorative coloring and stylized interpretation. Circa 2022: “Miklos Farkasházy has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 20 USD to 12,774 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2005 the record price for this artist at auction is 12,774 USD for Town, mid, sold at Kieselbach Gallery & Auction House in 2017. The artist died in 1964.” An aquatint is a type of art print. Aquatints are printed from an image etched onto a metal plate with acid and tools. It's called "aquatint" as the prints often resemble watercolor paintings. Aquatints are quite difficult to make. This means they are rarer than prints made by engraving or lithography. Viewable Image 8 x 7 inches.
