Description: These two characters were originally created by author Howard R. Garis in the early 20th century. Uncle Wiggly Longears was an aged rabbit afflicted with rheumatism and his housekeeper was muskrat Nurse Jane. The two animal characters were created in cloth doll form by Georgene Averill and her husband James Paul Averill for Georgene Novelties circa the 1920s-1940s. These two cloth dolls are in good, but not pristine, condition. They have both been loved and played with. Both retain their original clothing but are missing the hats. They have printed faces with the original button eyes and ecru color cotton cloth stuffed bodies jointed at the shoulders and hips with swivel necks. The original clothing shows some fading, moth spots in Uncle Wiggily’s felt vest, and age discoloration. Nurse Jane also has some damage to her right felt ear. Please look at the numerous photos that reflect condition. I find this pair to be quite charming and it would be great for them to be included in a collection by someone who will cherish and protect them for the future. I have attempted to offer the pair together at a low price to allow purchase by a true lover of such appealing character cloth dolls.
