Description: This is an original hand forgedspiked tomahawk made by the Underhill Edge Tool Co. in NH in the mid 1800s. Kept on board sailing ships as boarding weapons and used to cut away burning rigging during naval battles. Also used in ship building. The famous Lizzie Borden axe murders trial list an Underhill axe as the murder weapon. Original carved handle 14 1/4". Hammer forged head is 8 1/4" long. Head is tight on the handle. Very faintly marked Underhill Edge on left side of blade. (Enlarge photos 6-7) Looks like an early example judging by the handle carving. Please study the photos carefully for visible condition. I will provide a signed Letter of Authenticity with purchase.
