ABOUT THE ARTIST: EDWARD BARTON was born on June 24, 1926 in New York City, and he lived and worked mostly in California and Texas. He was entirely self-taught as an artist and stated that he could not remember a point in time when he did not draw or paint. This continued throughout his life and he was a very prolific artist. Many of his paintings were 100% imagination, with no model or still life, just what was in his mind. A member of the American Institute of Fine Arts, Barton was also listed in "American Artists of Renown.” His painting “Sinking of Atlantis” was exhibited around the world in the 1970’s and garnered him praise for his luminescent seascapes. In that style he combined supreme realism with just a touch of surrealism, executed with the ultimate integrity. An artist adept in many styles, his talents were also used with great effect in impressionistic styles of landscapes, horse racing, nudes, and city scenes. These impressions of reality provide lively colors, contrasts and textures and were executed with his unique impasto technique. His works have found homes in galleries and private and corporate collections throughout the world. Some collections which have displayed Barton’s artwork include the private collection of Vincent Price, Phillips 66, Max Factor, Louvre Drape, Prentice-Hall, Sargent Industries, SeaWorld, & CBS. Barton won numerous awards before he died on January 14, 2012, in Houston, TX at the age of 85.
