Description: This book is Exhibition Catalogue Exhibition Outline TOTO Galleryć»Ma is pleased to present "Fuminori Nosaku + Mio Tsuneyama: Architecture as a web of multiple species". In addition to architectural design and essay writing, both Nosaku and Tsuneyama have continued to research the relationship between architecture, cities, and ecosystems at universities in Japan and abroad. In their home and office, "Nishioi no Ana," they have renovated a steel-framed used house from an ecological perspective by opening holes for light and heat circulation, raking the concrete-covered exterior with their own hands, and making improvements in the soil. It is a place of practice where they can experiment with what they have learned from other projects and develop it into the next project. In addition to these efforts to bring the wild back into the city, which they call "urban wild ecology," in recent years they have been actively incorporating traditional knowledge such as masonry and wood framing, and materials that return to the soil such as straw and clay walls into their designs. They refer to cities as "habitats for a variety of living creatures that have been touched by humans. They decompose parts of the modern city, which is faced with challenges, absorb its nutrients, and grow like a fungus (mushroom). They see architecture as a nexus in the web of decay and rebirth, and with wild and traditional knowledge in hand, they attempt to build a network of multiple species by cutting into the web and reconnecting them. This exhibition is an attempt to share small trials and errors that anyone can imitate in order to reconnect the mesh through cross-sectional drawings and models of projects such as the further proposed renovation of "Ana of Nishioi" and the latest work "Akiya no Mokugumi (Akiya Smart House E Building)". We hope that beyond this, visitors will be able to sense the possibilities and visions of architecture in the age known as the Anthropocene.
