Description: USAir (later renamed USAirways and then absorbed by American Airlines) used Boeing 727 aircraft to inaugurate service to Austin. The inaugural flight originated in Pittsburgh and continued to Houston before terminating at Austin on April 26, 1981. This cover was carried on the inaugural USAir flight from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Austin, Texas (where it was backstamped) and is listed in The American Air Mail Catalogue as AL-D33SW. On February 14, 2013, US Airways Group and AMR Corporation announced that the two companies would merge to form the largest airline in the world. The combined airline carries the American Airlines name.
