Description: USS BULLHEAD SS-332 memorial submarine cover honoring this brave World War II 311 foot long Balao Class diesel sub commissioned on 4 Dec 1944. She was built at Groton, CT. She was lost on her third war patrol in the Pacific and never heard from again on 6 Aug 1945. Postwar enemy records appear to confirm that she was sunk by aircraft bombs and depth charges on that date near Bali. Eighty-four men were lost on this war patrol. The pictorial postmark from Washington, DC is dated July 1, 2021. The blue printed photo cachet #2816 of the actual submarine at sea was prepared by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. Cover franked with a 55 cent Flag stamp and a 3 cent USN stamp from 1946. Seller has over 200 different submarine covers. Check out my other items!
