Description: Photograph shows the side view of The U.S.S. North Carolina circa 1909.The U.S.S. North Carolina / ACR-12 was built for the U.S. Navy by Newport News Drydock & Shipbuilding Co., Newport News, Virginia. She was laid down 21 Mar 1905 and launched 6 Oct 1906, commissioned in May 1908 and decommissioned 18 Feb 1921. She was renamed 'Charlotte' 7 June 1920 so a new ship could assume the name, and was sold for scrap 29 Sep 1930. The ship was 504.5 feet in length and propelled by steam engines. Photograph by M.
