She meets a neighbor boy Marco, a cabin boy from the old water-carrying schooner Columbus. Friendship is struck between them. Marko is the commander of the "Young Friends of Border Guards" children's detachment. Once, walking at night with Lyuda, he notices suspicious activity in the house of the local fishery inspector. As it turns out, a foreign saboteur who is staying in this house is going to secretly cross the border.
