Description: Carlo Scarpa designed this exceptional "Battuto Bicolore" vase for Venini. Two particularly intricate techniques have been combined to make this vase - the Incalmo technique and the Battuto technique. Incalmo is Italian for fusion and describes the process during which two glass elements with the same diameter but different colours are fused together while in their hot, liquid form. This process can be repeated any number of times and makes it possible to create glass objects of different coloured rings. Battuto translates as "beaten" and describes the final technique used when the glass object has cooled. The glass surface is refined with a multitude of different indentations of varying size and depth. That is what produces the distinctive surface design of Venini’s "Battuto Bicolore" vase.
