Description: Hand carved and hand painted by Vaughn and Stephanie Rawson, this carving of “To Market, To Market” originates from a child’s nursery rhyme about the joy of a trip to the market to make a desired purchase. It first appeared in 1598 in “A Worlde of Wordes”, an Italian-English dictionary and then appeared in 1805 in “Songs for the Nursery”. This little guy has acquired for himself a jolly fat pig and is skipping home to throw it on the pit. The carving is part of a series of nursery rhymes that Vaughn and Stephanie created in 1992 at their home in Wisconsin. It is a fine example of their talents even in miniature. It should be treasured as a piece of work carved by Vaughn, who is now deceased. It is the second and last of its kind from a private collection and in excellent condition. This wee shopper measures: Overall dimensions…6.5”H x 2.5”W x 3”D Carving dimensions…5.5”H x 3”W x 2.25”D It is signed and dated 1992 by Vaughn and Stephanie. Any questions? Shout….. Any questions? Shout… He is wearing his formal “town” attire, common to this time period when marketplaces flourished all over Europe, and common for this successful morning visit….
