One gate kit can make a gate 8' long, but the manufacturer recommends that the gate not be more than 3.5' long. In the photo on the website, the two long white post-looking things are the right and left sides of the gate. You have to buy a fence panel to put between those two sides. The top and bottom rail that come with the fence panel pieces go on the top and bottom of the gate, and the panel pieces go between them, just like they do in the fence. If you need multiple gates, you can split a panel kit between the gates if you want to. Or you might be able to buy a 6' panel instead of an 8', and save a little money. Be sure to buy something solid to go in the post that the gate hangs on. I used 4x4' cedar posts, costing about $20 each. That's much cheaper than the metal inserts. Also, the gated hinges bolt onto the post, if the gate post is up against a wall, like mine is, you won't need any pre-routed holes in that post. Buy a post without holes in it, in that case.Versatile gate18 Mar 16This gate is an integral part of the vinyl fence system. It is well designed and looks nice. It has great instructions that are clear and concise. The hardware appears to be very sturdy and is easily installed. One of the feature that I especially like is that it can be any convenient width. The kit recommend a width of 40 1/2' but by following the instructions you can actually make it any width up to the size of one of the fence panels (5'3'). The gate is basically a hardware kit that converts one of the fence system panels so that it can be used as a gate.Great looking fence!29 Feb 16This review will cover all the different parts to the set I received. All components of the fence look great and are of top quality. It is pretty time consuming as far as putting the fence up, but not any different than a usual fence. This vinyl material will not fade, wear, rust, etc and it is very easy to clean with a pressure cleaner in a lot less time than any wood fence. Received 6 panels and a gate and it looks great!
