Very fine signed Will-George of Pasadena Flamingo Ceramic Figurine Mid-century

Description: Very collectible mid-century Will-George signed porcelain figurine. It’s from the California studio of the brothers William and George Climes, initially launched in Will’s Los Angeles garage in 1934. This fine glazed flamingo stands 9.5 inches tall on a base four inches long and 2 5/8 inches with vibrant Art Deco era colors. It weighs just under 5.6 ounces. Please see photos as part of the description of this exceptional piece. Well known actor Edgar Bergen became infatuated with Will-George’s premium porcelain art pieces in the 1930s. His investment in their business allowed the talented brothers to expand, moving to a larger workshop in Pasadena, CA. After the move, Will and George grew their line art figurines and pottery, including popular bird and animal figurines, as well as a line of fine human figurines similar to those created by Royal Doulton. After World War II, the brothers ended their partnership with Bergen and moved to a larger facility in San Gabriel. Then they renamed their company “The Claysmiths,”but continued to sign their creations “Will-George.” Like most California companies producing fine collectible ceramics and pottery, Will-George’s company suffered following the influx of cheap imports during the 1950s. William and George liquidated their business in 1956. Will Climes began designing for Hagen-Renaker until his death in 1960. George Climes worked with Redondo Tile Company of Torrance through the 1950s and was a lab technician for Gladding-McBean until his death in 1966. Please see our perfect feedback since 2004.
