Description: A stunning example of a crinoid fossil of the species Pentacrinites fossilis from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK. The fossil measures 284 mm (11.2 inches) across which is very large for a crinoid fossil from this location. The fossil consists of multiple long stem sections with attachment cirri as well as the arms and pinnules from multiple crinoid heads. It is preserved in limestone with a thin layer of pyrite on the surface. These crinoids are very sought after and not easy to find these days, and large examples like this are even rarer. It weighs 850 grams. Around 196 million years old (Sinemurian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Crinoids are echinoderms closely related to starfish and sea urchins, and have been around for many hundreds of millions of years. They still live today in the deep seas around the world. Please take some time to check out my other items and to add me to your favorites list. Combined shipping: I offer combined shipping on all of my fossils. If you wish to purchase multiple fossils, just send a message to let me know and I can hold any order open for up to 25 days from the first auction win/purchase for more fossils to be added to the order. After you have finished adding items to an order, let me know and I will combine the shipping to the lowest amount possible for your items. The shipping cannot be combined automatically due to the large variation in weight of the fossils and the costs of different weight classes of the Royal Mail. Contact me if you have any questions and I will be happy to help!
