Description: VERY RARE Chapbook (toybook) Fold out pages of A-Z (1 continuous page). The Child's Scriptural Alphabet c. 1840 (maybe earlier). The 1st page is attached inside the front cover. The last page "Z" is loose from back cover. From 19th Century Juvenile Series page:Henry Jenkins Howland (1810-1897) apprenticed to a Boston printing firm, True and Greene in 1824. He formed the first Infant Sabbath School Class in Boston in 1830. Howland moved to Worcester in 1831. At that time Henry purchased a half interest in a printing business which he subsequently sold to his brother, S. A. Howland. In 1835 H. J. Howland established his namesake printing firm. H. J. Howland mainly was a printing firm during its life although it published a number of volumes. This particular title is not listed and no other editions with folding out pages is evident. Condition: Crease to front cover, paper loss along spine and part of back as well as tip of front cover (all seen in photos). Letter "A" has tear and is taped (on back) to secure to "B"; same with last page "Z" to "Y". 2 other small taped repairs to other pages. What a rare find!
