They will capture the essence of Japanese culture. The intricate details and beautiful craftsmanship will add to your displays, whether just starting out to collect them or adding to your existing collection, whether you love Japanese culture or just simply appreciate beautiful art. I'm not sure whether they are made of ceramic or porcelain. I believe that they were made in Japan, and possibly hand-painted. The Emperor measures 14 1/2", the Empress measures 14". They are standing on a 4" platform. They each weight just shy of 2 lbs. PLEASE note that the Emperor's head was broken off sometime in the past, it has been repaired, not perfectly, but it is not very noticeable. It also has a chip on the top front of his headwear, and a small scrape on the tip of his nose, please see pictures. Although these are definitely issues, they do not detract from the absolute beauty and brilliance of these pieces. Please look very carefully at all pictures as it depicts the entire item with full details, and it is part of the description. Other than what I have disclosed above, they are in good vintage condition. There are no other chips, cracks, scratches, crazing or discoloration. This would make a wonderful addition to anyone's collection, they are truly beautiful pieces to own and display. The colors are bright and unfaded, and the finish is nice and shiny.
