Vintage 1875 Diary Southeastern MA Silas C. Hall Used for 1883-1884

Description: Vintage 1875 Diary Southeastern MA Silas C. Hall Used for 1883-1884 This vintage pocket diary was published in 1875 by Nichols & Hall, No. 32 Bromfield Street, Boston, Mass. The diary has a patentederasable surface on the inside of the front cover patented October 24th, 1865, for use with a soft pencil and erased with moisture. The outer cover has two compartment for cards. The diary is 3 5/8" x 7 1/2". The last Memoranda page has the name Silas C. Hall stamped many times. The diary includes a calendar, time difference, interest tables, value of foreign gold and silver coins, rates of income on investments, rates of postage, fixed and movable feasts and more and includes monthly charts and a Chicago almanac. The diary is unusual in that the owner crossed out the days for 1875 and added the correct day for 1883-1884 on each entry. The diary.has entries on all pages and includes a record of the number of days worked on many entries. The diary is possibly from Taunton, MA. The diary does not name a specific residence for the owner but includes the names of many southeastern MA towns, businesses, and lodges. I have listed most of the names in the order in which I found them in the diary: IOGT, Campello, Rehoboth, Middleboro, Somerset, Grand Templars Lodge, Sampson Pond, Winslow Church, Myricks, New Bedford, Hopewell Lodge, George Calvin elected GT, Raynham, Lincoln, Brockton, Goffs Ice Cream, Jones Block, Water Works, and Shepherds Factory. The writer used the memoranda pages for his 1884 entries.The writer mentions fishing, skating, drawing school, going to the lodge, playing cards, work, drawing school, seeing Ben Butler at the Music Hall, going to Green Baptist, and going to the green.The diary is in vintage condition with some wear to the black cover and some marks on the pages 6636
