This grouping features a signed hand written letter with the Ruth Nichols letterhead from Aviation Legend Ruth Nichols to another Aviation Legend Lillian Gatlin in reply to a letter Gatlin wrote to Nichols after Nichols airplane crash in 1931 at St. John’s New Brunswick on her solo transatlantic flight attempt…She refers to her injuries and her plans for another attempt of the Transatlantic flight …Also included are two 5 x 7 photographs of Lillian Gatlin after she had completed her first woman to fly across the United States flight in 1922. Lillian Gatlin was taught to fly by famed aviator Lincoln Beachey. Ruth Rowland Nichols (February 23, 1901 – September 25, 1960) was an American aviation pioneer. She is the only woman yet to hold simultaneous world records for speed, altitude, and distance for a female pilot.
