Description: Vintage 1936 M.S. “Chichibu Maru” 2nd Saloon Illustrated Cruise Ship Aloha Menu. This is an interesting bit of ephemera from the golden age of ocean voyages that then became a part of WWII history. Originally a passenger ship, the Chichibu Maru was conscripted into military service and eventually sunk during WWII with over 2,000 casualties. The menu cover features “Pheasant,” a piece displayed at the Tokyo Imperial Art Exhibition (1934). The back cover shows a world map with the ocean liner’s ports of call. The menu is in good vintage condition with wear commensurate with its age, use, and storage. There is overall yellowing and some minor spotting/discoloration. It measures approximately 5.25”x7.5”.
