Vintage 1950's Astatic 77A / 77 Dynamic cardioid microphone w cable Shure 55S

Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a very nice Astatic 77A model microphone from the 1950's. This was a high quality Dynamic cardioid microphone offered by Astatic and was their answer to the very popular Shure Brothers 55S model mic at the time. This particular unit has been tested and thoroughly cleaned. This 77A still has 100% of it's original components and the element is 100% good to go. The signal is uber strong and sounds exactly as it should. Suitable for any live purpose. It should be noted that the 77A has more of a mid range sound and does not have as much bass as the Shure 55S model from the same period. Still a great sounding mic and especially good for a "rockabilly" tone. The 77A came with the adjustable impedance switch as well for high, med, and low Z. Pic # 2 shows an old data sheet with this very model and it's basic characteristics. Pic # 3 shows a young Jerry Lee Lewis using the Astatic 77A while performing live in concerts. It was one of his go to model mics for many years. As you can see there are virtually no signs of wear. No dent or engravings, scratches dent nicks. This example is about as nice as they come. The black silk screen is 100% complete in the front and rear. There are zero rips in the screens too which is always a bonus. The joint mechanism holds strong and the mic head tilts backwards as needed. The thumb screws tighten firmly in place as well. The on / off switch slides smoothly as well. The 77A came with an impedance switch located on the bottom front of the head and it works as it should. The rear Astatic label shows no wear and still present. The front Astatic 77A insignia is still present as well but looks excellent. Everything is tight on this mic. The only issue with this 77A was that the threading for the stand was mostly stripped so I added a new male thread with a female Atlas lower chrome adapter that completely solves that problem and it will allow you to now safely screw this onto any stand you have. Just like new. This Astatic 77 is a solid 9 + out of a scale of 1 - 10 on the cosmetic and working side. The 77 has an elegant, timeless look that set these vintage mics apart from most others of that era and presently. Though several Japanese manufacturers tried to replicate the 77's style they never really made anything as beautiful as Astatic's 77A. The 77A had superior styling and sound over the competition. Really one of the most admired and famous of mics from the 1950's. This is one of the nicest examples of a 77A out there. and should last for many years to come. This microphone comes with the extra long 36 foot cable that is soft, pliable and in perfect working condition. It has the standard male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. You have more than enough length for any studio or stage work.
