Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a nice older Atlas desk stand from the early 1950's era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone. The design, paint scheme shows that it's clearly an early 1st generation DS-7 retractable desk stand made in Brooklyn, NY. Pic # 2 is from an older Atlas catalog showing this particular model. Total length is 12 inches high x 6 inches wide but can be lowered to 8 inches if needed? This mic stand is far from perfect but it's a lot nicer than most you'll come across from this era. If you need a special 50's era stand for that special older mic...this one will do you fine. When Atlas first introduced the DS-7 model it was part of their new modern line up of stands that were drastically different than what was being sold in the industry in the 1940's. You'll notice this DS-7 has the original decal (not a sticker) on the lower chrome riser. The very first models of the DS-7 had this decal. Just a few years later Atlas would do away with the decals and use stickers instead. You can also see how well preserved the decal is on this stand making it a real exception as most of these early DS-7 model stands are either completely missing the decal from wear or there is just not much of it left. This particular example is a rarity. The upper chrome stem shows lite wear in the form of lite scuff marks. The bottom stem shows a little less wear and again, the Atlas logo is still present and looks beautiful. There are no signs of discoloration on the original grey paint but there is just a few tiny paint chips. No rust stains on the bottom of the base which is pretty rare as well. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The locking clutch mechanism works excellent and all 3 original rubber pads are still present and in excellent condition. The stand will accept just about any microphone with the exception of a few Astatic mics due to their unusual 3 pin attachment. All E.V, Shure and Turner mics will screw on however. This stand has the universal 5/8 thread. This is perfect for the old "Fatboy" 55 or 55 S because of it's wide, stable base and manufacture date. This stand is an easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
