Vintage 1960's Avalon 20 ATM Diver w/Mint Dial,Patina,All SS Case,AS 1883 Mvmt

Description: This seldom seen vintage 1960's Avalon diver has a matte black "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visible scratching, tool marks or defects. Please note that there is significant dust/debris on the underbelly of the crystal and to a much lesser degree the dial. In my humble opinion this dust/debris is much less pronounced in person. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a perfectly matching warm golden buttermilk hue. The black bezel, which shows wear and rotates a bit stiffly bidirectionally, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case with lugholes, which appears to have retained its original finish, shows moderate wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL ANTIMAGNETIC INCABLOC AUTOMATIC" with "100%" followed by "WATERPROOF TESTED,""20 ATMOSPHERES" and "136663" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped "AVALON WATCH CO." While the integrity of the crystal is intact it shows scratching and significant dust/debris on its underbelly. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "AVALON WATCH Co" stamped AS 1883 automatic movement with quickset date function is clean, keeps accurate time and the date wheel rolls over at approximately 11:21 pm. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had a healthy power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The crown winds smoothly. Given that the date wheel rolls over a bit prematurely and considering that the movement appears to have only been serviced once, 32 years ago (there is a lone watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back which appears to be dated 3/88), a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. This watch comes on a lightly used beige and black NATO strap that complements the dial and patina beautifully. Given that the date wheel rolls over a bit prematurely and considering that the movement appears to have only been serviced once more than three decades ago a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
